BCHPCA Board of Directors

Carol Weremy
Regional Director : North

BCHPCA Member since 1985.

I first got involved....
In the field of Hospice Palliative Care in 1984, when. Dr. Barber, our general internist, wanted to develop a palliative care program. I became the hospital liaison nurse and we worked, together with home care, to develop the program for Quesnel and the surrounding area.

I stayed involved...
In the field of Hospice Palliative Care because I saw the need of the dying patient and their family not being met with the standard of care at that time. It became my passion and I educated myself in the field of pain and symptom control, while at the same time helped to develop our society so that we could train and monitor volunteers.

I am constantly inspired by...
The people I meet through HPC because they show by their actions, as well as their words, that they care for others in a non judgemental way. They are also for the most part living in the moment. They know that moments count.

The sagest advice I ever received was...
From my Dad, he said “What you do to others will be reflected back to you”

To me, Quality End of Life Care means...
The person and their family, whomever that is, is the center of care. There is a good or healthy death when all pains and symptoms are addressed in the way that is acceptable to the person and his or her family

"The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control”- Gal. 5:22-23"

If I could plan my own Last Supper it would be...

The Setting: Our back yard – in the summertime. Not too hot, with the sun shining and a light breeze blowing.

The Menu: A pot luck with BBQ’d salmon, BBQ’d back ribs, my homemade 60% ww buns, Gloria’s desert, trifle, peach pie, potato salad, and whatever else arrives.

The Music: Mozart, Beethoven, music of the 50’s, my family playing their guitars, and violins and piano.

Food Prepared by: my friends and family

Extras: My friends and family surrounding me and all of us enjoying the moment and someone else to do the clean up before and after!!!

“May you find some joy in today.” Carol.
