I first got involved in the field of Hospice Palliative Care when....
“ I met Kay Johnson in the early 90s and was very touched by our meeting. Kay, the Executive Director of Langley Hospice in the 1990s, spoke about Hospice through her vision and passion, I was deeply moved and immediately became involved. Hospice is a grass roots movement that resonates with my heart and my head.”
I stayed involved in the field of Hospice Palliative Care because...
“ Hospice is fast becoming recognized with respect in so many areas of our community. My on-going involvement continually teaches me about the multiple benefits of partnerships, beyond health-care systems, with families and communities, when caring for our dying. Considerations of all family members and the loving efforts to communication respectfully during the transitions of dying and grieving offer so many opportunities to learn, and to love, and be loved that I repeatedly feel honoured to be involved.
The sagest advice I ever received was...
Success is liking yourself, liking what you do and liking how you do it

To me, Quality End of Life Care means...
Patient and family lead care. Persons near death will show us what they want and it becomes our job to pay attention and respond to their needs. End of life care is a gift and a privilege. I feel blessed to be present at this intimate time in someones life.
The best thig about being on the BCHPCA Board of Directors is...
“ I have gained so many things but I think the best things about being on the BCHPCA Board are: the rich respect for the complexity of the Hospice movement that I have experienced; and the opportunities that I have had to work with the diverse and committed team members involved with Hospice. We remain vigilant to being responsive and not reactive to our clients needs and desires.

If I could plan my own Last Supper it would be...
I would plan a long meal that started and ended with desert. We would have lobster, all my family and friends, including our four legged family members would enjoy their favorites. It would be a celebration dinner, not a sad meal. We would spend time honouring our relationships and being grateful for one another. We would play music and talk of happy times, our successes and challenges that we had shared. We would sing, talk, touch and celebrate each other. We would stay together until we were very tired then we would all drift off to sleep knowing we were loved and loving each other.
