I first got involved in the field of Hospice Palliative Care when....
“early in my career as a nurse I had to care for clients who were actively dying. I knew that the experience for both the clients and the families was not as they had hoped for...and I wanted to be a part of creating an environment that recognized the person as a whole and as a result would be better equipped to meet the needs and expectations of clients and their families. The field of Hospice Palliative Care provided the language and the framework to begin to have those conversations.”

“Dying is both a unique individual and a universal experience. This is true of our own (death) and our experience of another’s (death). Everything we talk about as providers of end-of-life-care can be distilled down to improving dying. Ultimately, we leave no one untouched by our efforts.

The sagest advice I ever received was...
A very wise woman once told me that failure is NOT when things go wrong...failure is when we do not learn from the things that did not go right. Wow! That’s the quality lens.

To me, Quality End of Life Care means...
Living in the midst of dying.

If I could wave a magic wand and change one thing in this world it would be...
“freedom to focus on the things that matter...the world's greatest energy crisis resulted by failing to recognize that the energy and efforts of individuals are our greatest finite resource. They need to be used wisely.

If I could plan my own Last Supper it would be...

The setting: Wherever my guests would choose. We are creating their memory.

The Menu....

Starter: Panko crusted Scallop and Cilantro Cakes: paired with Gewürztraminer.

Dinner: Chicken Oscar; Garlic Mashed Potatoes; paired with Sauvignon Blanc.

Dessert: New York style blueberry cheesecake: paired with late harvest wine.
